Amanda Hoffner, a.k.a “Lady Tenkara Bum” on social media, is a registered nurse from eastern Pennsylvania currently traveling in the Southeastern US. She can be found in the mountains on wild trout streams or at her vise tying up some flies for her next adventure. Her passion for trout, native fish, and their environment began when she moved away from the Poconos in the mid 2000s. Catching fish on a tenkara rod in over 20 states across the US and in 4 countries has allowed her to appreciate the land, waterways, and wild fish and has driven her desire to help bolster their protections around the US. She has co-hosted and volunteered at tenkara gatherings across the country and attended and tabled at fly fishing trade shows on the east coast with Luong Tam of Tenkara Tanuki for the past few years. Looking towards the future, Amanda along with Martin Montejano began the Heritage Tenkara Project which endeavors to make tenkara accessible to all. She looks forward to meeting the communities around the country and world who are tenkara-curious and are eager to learn the sport.
